Leann, tell why you became a mystery author.
I became a mystery author because that's what I always wanted to do. And it took me lots of time to muster the courage to learn how to write fiction.
What type of writing schedule do you have and have you always kept the same schedule?
I write when I can, usually in the mornings since developing
several fatigue-causing illnesses. That's when I have the most energy. Before I
used to write all the time, any time, often well into the night.
Do you have a favorite movie?
L.A. Confidential
Tell us about your family, your life and your future writing plans and goals.
I have been married for 36 years to an engineer who has been very supportive of me following my dream. I have two grown children, Shawn and Jillian. Shawn married Allison in 2004 and they are expecting their first baby in October. They are my Seattle kids and both are business people. My NYC kids, Jill and her husband Jeffrey, married in 2003. Jillian is a dancer/performance artist and Jeffrey is a playwright, director, actor, producer and performs every Friday and Saturday night with the Neo-Futurists—30 plays in 60 minutes. They, of course, have day jobs trying to support their art!
Are you a part of mystery writing group? Do you attend conventions or workshops?
I have been with the same core writing group for more than ten years. We meet every week. I do attend conventions, but because of my health, I really have to limit this as I find them extremely tiring.
Now we want to know something about you that nobody else knows....such as, do you have a secret cookie stash?
I am an ice cream addict. This is what I have turned to because I cannot drink alcohol, coffee or chocolate. Ice cream and cookies made without eggs (I am allergic to eggs) are true addictions.
Do you have favorite book that you like to read?
I have MANY, MANY favorite books. All mysteries. Right now I have a passion for Michael Robotham's work.
Is there something you would like to say to your readers?
I am truly amazed by the support. I never realized I would actually get e-mail from people who love Abby Rose. That is what I always hoped would happen.
Leave us with some mysterious words of wisdom.
A good mystery must always include the reader, invest them and carry them along for the ride. And I know when I am writing, that if I'm not having fun, my readers won't have fun either.
